Live - The Community

Alexandria, as a city, is proud to say we are "easy to get to and hard to leave;" but it is members of our community who will tell you Alexandria is really "easy to love and hard to forget." Easy to love is easy to say with one answer that happens as soon as you experience the splendor of all four seasons in this amazing lake community. Yet, it is hard to forget for a number of reasons. Yes, it is conveniently located in west central Minnesota. Yes, it features a business community vibrant in business and opportunity, but it is the people who choose to build their lives in this community who make it hard to forget.

Work - Chamber of Commerce

Alexandria exemplifies a quality of life that made Minnesota famous. Its roots reach back to the 1850s when pioneers, strong in spirit and determination for a good life, braved their way into the upper Midwest. The people of the Alexandria area have kept that spirit and through their Chamber of Commerce remain determined to band together and uphold those traditions. We share a work ethic that has become the gold standard and our Chamber members represent that pride of work and emphasis on quality.

The earliest record of a church service held in Alexandria was in 1859 when the Reverend Benjamin Whipple was consecrated as the first Missionary Bishop of Minnesota. He held that Episcopal service at the home of Charles Cook. Most early church services were held in homes until a church building could be financed and built.
